Father's Rainbows

“I know the creator of rainbows,” he whispered.

I have seen the man in action, I help often.

I’m the little lamb, he’s the good shepherd.

I’ll ask for another rainbow today of the wizard

Father, father please make me a new one.”

“I know the creator of rainbows,” he whispered.

Cranked neck, squinted eyes and palm on forehead

I search between the clouds, where is it then?

He’s the little lamb, his father is the good shepherd.

“The end of the rainbow, I know of its fountainhead

My home has the pot of gold, that’s its origin.”

“I know the creator of rainbows,” he whispered.

The sun goes home but not a rainbow showed

The duvet under my chin; the promise was broken.

“I’m the little lamb, he’s the good shepherd.”

“My father’s big green gardening hose is his magical wand

It spits rainbows when my father points it at heaven.”

“I know the creator of rainbows”, he whispered.

I’m the little lamb, he’s the good shepherd. ◆
