Sumou Turns 2!

Thank you to everyone who stuck by. Thank you to everyone who submitted, who read, who talked to us and revealed a piece of their heart. It feels fulfilling to know some of you have gotten the chance to witness Sumou grow every day. I grew as a creative alongside Sumou, I discovered things about myself I wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for Sumou. I hope soon enough I can take a step back and marvel at the community we created.
I think at this point, everyone understands my eternal affinity for scrapbooks (I’ve talked about this way too much, already). I’ve always felt a flutter in my heart, almost like sunshine seeping through my vessels whenever I go back to the things I captured/created in my rawest moments. I think I feel sheer, unblemished happiness during then. I love Sumou especially for this reason: how it’s a place of honesty for everyone—how it embraces people’s rawest pieces and tucks them away in its (virtual) pages. I think of Sumou and I feel like I’m in a dream.
Seeing the magazine grow everyday, we decided it would be best to redesign our logo to make it fit our art direction more. Starting Sumou in 2018, Sarah AlBaiz generously offered to design the logo. She poured her heart into it, and I wouldn’t have asked a better person. I am forever grateful. Our new logo, designed by Zayna Sheikh has been a dream. She seamlessly managed to design what I had in mind in the most graceful way possible. Thank you to both these women, I’m so thankful for all the effort they’ve put in. (Side note: hire them asap.) Also, if you’re interested in keeping our publication running, please consider donating to us! All proceeds go to Sumou’s maintenance.
Celebrating our 2nd birthday, I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given, for the stories I’ve read and published, and for the people I’ve sat down with and interviewed. I’m grateful for all the hearts I’ve touched just within the vicinity of my own bedroom. Keep creating, always.
